Timber Paling Fences
Treated pine palings on hardwood posts. The classic Melbourne boundary fence, built straight and built to last.
The timber paling fence is the backbone of Melbourne backyards, and for good reason. It’s private, it’s affordable, and when it’s built properly it will stand straight for decades. We build ours the right way: hardwood or treated posts set in concrete, three rails on taller fences, and palings fixed tight and level along the run.
Whether it’s a shared boundary fence with the neighbours, a new side fence for a new build, or replacing a leaning fence that’s had its day, we’ll quote it clearly and get it done fast without cutting corners.

Good to know
Timber paling fencing questions
Straight answers. If yours isn’t here, call us and we’ll talk it through.
How long does a paling fence take to build?
Most residential paling fences are removed and rebuilt in one to two days, depending on length and access. We’ll give you a clear timeframe with your quote.
Capped or standard paling fence?
A standard paling fence hides the posts behind the palings and is the most economical. A capped (exposed post) fence has a capping rail and exposed posts for a more finished look. Both are built with the same care; it comes down to budget and style.
Do you handle shared fences with neighbours?
Yes. We provide an itemised quote you can share with your neighbour, and we’re happy to speak with both parties so everyone is on the same page before work starts.
How much does a new fence cost in Melbourne?
It depends on the style, height, length and site access. A standard treated pine paling fence is the most economical, Colorbond sits a little above it, and aluminium slat and merbau are premium options. We give free, itemised quotes so you know exactly what you’re paying for, with no surprises on the day.
How quickly can you start?
Fast is the whole point. We’ll get out to quote quickly, and most residential fences are booked in within a couple of weeks. Storm-damaged or unsafe fences get priority.
Do you remove the old fence?
Yes. Removal and disposal of the old fence is included in our quotes, and we leave the site clean when we’re done.
